ELOIS ROMNEY CARDON, 74, a resident of El Paso for 54 years, passed away Monday January 13, 1992. A retired El Paso Independent School District Educator, Mrs. Cardon taught for 26 years, 22 of which were at Hughey Elementary School – 3rd grade. She was selected as the El Paso Teacher of the Year 1983-84. Mrs. Cardon held membership in many professional organizations including TSTA, NEA, and EPTA. Also active in Community Affairs she served as a PTA President, Garden Club President, a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, a member of the Child Crisis Center and Shelter for Battered Women, and Social Chairman for the Parkinsons Association in behalf of her afflicted husband. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints she served in nearly all organizations including President of the Youth Mutual Improvement Association, President of the Womens Relief Society, President of the Childrens Primary, Junior Sunday Schook Coordinator, Dance Director, Cultural Arts Specialist, Stake Sunday School Secretary, Road Show Director and Instructor for the Teacher Development course. She loves music and was Church Choir Director and wrote and directed several musical and drama events. Mrs. Cardon was an avid oil painter and quilter. She is survived by her husband L. Lavon Cardon, her children Lavon R. Cardon of El Paso, Peggy Rhoton of Flagstaff, AZ, Gerald J. Cardon of Fargo, N.D., and Donna J. Brown of Mesa, AZ. She is also survived by a sister Isabell Gledhill of Provo, UT, and two brothers: Alvin and Charles Romney of Las Cruces, N.M. Mrs. Cardon has 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Public visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. on Wednesday Jan. 15 at Futrell Funeral Home, 201 East Yandell. Family visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. that night at the same location. A funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday Jan. 16, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1212 Sumac. Bishop Charles E. Brown will conduct the service with President Emanuel Cardon presiding. Burial will be at Evergreen East Cemetery. Arrangements by Futrell Funeral Home. 201 E. Yandell 532-3431
