Wife of John Ariel Cardon


On September 6, 2011 of Bethesda, MD. Beloved wife of the late John A. Cardon and the late John H. Wetzel died peacefully at home. Born 30 September 1913 in Williamsport, PA to Dr. Clinton Ellis Rutter and Anna Sheef Rutter, she graduated from Penn State University and was a life time member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. She was married to John H. Wetzel from 1938 until his death in 1966. She married John A. Cardon in 1972. She is survived by her daughter, Frances W. Card and stepchildren, Martha Cardon Irmer and her husband David, Susan Cardon Lewis and her husband Randy, and John C. Cardon and his wife, Shailla. Grandmother to Jennifer C. Tantum, Matthew M. Card, Karen J. Lewis, Sarah l. McElhinney and Laura M. Cardon and six great grandchildren, Patrick T. Cannon, Kelly E. Tantum, Sean C. Tantum, Rohan M. Card, Judah A. Card, and Jack R. McElhinney. She was predeceased by a sister, Anne R. Lee and a son, David R. Wetzel. She was a known local artist who was a member of Spectrum Gallery in Georgetown and the Art League in Alexandria, VA. She exhibited her works in many area shows and received numerous awards and recognition. She was a long-time member of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Bethesda, MD. A memorial service will be held at St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church. 5450 Massachusetts Avenue, Bethesda, MD 20816, on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to The National Children’s Medical Center, 111 Michigan Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20010.
