Edna Amanda Hemmlar, 99, of Rogue River died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at Autumn House.

Hemmlar was born Aug. 2, 1913, in Logan, Utah, to Silas and Amanda Ricks. In the 1950s, she was the only woman who worked as an electronic technician at RCA, assisting with the design of the first color television. In 1960, in Santa Barbara, Calif., she married George Hemmlar, who died before her. In 1962, she moved to Rogue River from Topanga Canyon, Calif. Along with her husband, while living in the Rogue River/Wimer area, she built houses and owned and operated a fitness center, miniature golf course, art gallery and arcade.

She was a member and served as president for Taking Off Pounds Sensibly and the Rogue River and Wimer garden clubs. She was a seamstress and enjoyed oil painting on canvas, painting on rocks, gardening, reading, knitting, sewing and crocheting. She also enjoyed traveling the world by cruise ships, trains and automobiles.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Gray of Carson City, Nev.; a son, Steven Staker of Rogue River; two brothers, Floyd Ricks of Long Beach, Calif., and Robert Ricks of Ogden, Utah; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

A son, Tommy Staker, and a grandson, Greg Gray, died before her.
