Dr. Roland William Funk, 52, associate professor of accounting at the University of Utah, died Saturday at 10:20 a.m. in a Salt Lake hospital of natural causes.
Dr. Funk resided at 1861 Herbert Ave (1045 South). He had been president of Contract & Mortgage Exchange, president and director of Savers Investment Co. and president and director of Spanish Trail Motel Assn., Las Vegas, Nev. He also was a director for Montek Associates.
He had taught at the University of Chicago, John Marshall Law School, American Institute of Banking, University of Kansas City and the University of California at Los Angeles. He was a member of the American Accounting Assn. and the National Association of Accountants.
Dr. Funk had worked as accountant, auditor and analyst for the Sargre Oil Co., Arthur Anderson & Co. and the Illinois Central Railroad System. He had also been comptroller for Acme Electronics Co. and Aerovox Electronics Manufacturing Co.
He was graduated from the University of Utah in 1933 and received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1951.
Dr. Funk served as a captain in World War II. He was financial analyst and adviser with the 7th Air Force General Staf Corps in Honolulu,Hawaii. Dr. Funk organized and directed the Commerce Section of the Army University Center, Oahu, Hawaii, at the close of the war.
He was an active member of the Yalecrest Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Born July 15, 1908, in Oakley, Idaho, he was the son of Marcus O. and Forthilda Iverson Funk. He married Amy Cardon April 7, 1944 in Tucson, Ariz. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Laek Temple, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Surviving are his widow; three children, Clifford, Norman and Randolyn; one brother and two sisters, Esper I. New Orleans, La.; Mrs. Magdalen Sessions, Provo, and Mrs. Zatelle Sessions, Los Angeles.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. in the Yalecrest Ward chapel, 1035 18th East. There will be no viewing.
Burial will be in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
