GARLAND – DelRey Charles Bjorkman died July 6, 1998, at age 66 from natural causes. He was born in Logan, UT., the second child of Mary Shaw and Charles P. Bjorkman, who preceeded him in death.

He was reared and educated in Logan, graduating from Utah State University in 1957 with a degree in engineering.

He married NaDean Bench, also of Logan. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 15, 1955. Following their marriage they lived in Logan, Salt Lake, San Diego, CA., and Garland. They were blessed with three children; Ronald Bjorkman (ViKi), Deary, ID.; Lynnette Winn (Michael), Ogden; Teresa Clark (Stanley), Garland.

He was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Convair Division of General Dynamics Corporation and for over 30 years he worked for Thiokol Corporation in many engineering and management assignments. He was Director of Production Engineering at the time of his retirement in December of 1992.

In his private life he was active in many civic and service functions including trustee of the Tremonton Hospital Board, Garland City Councilman, member of the First District Court Nominating Commission, member of the Box Elder County Republican Central Committee, member of two separate Box Elder County Industrial Development Committees and member and chairman of the Garland City Planning and Zoning Commission. He also held several local and state offices in the Jaycees service club. As president of the Tremonton Garland Jaycees he led the club to state and national recognition for oustanding internal and external programs for five first place state awards and the trophy for best Jaycee club internal program in the nation in 1963.

For over 20 years Mr. Bjorkman was active in the Boy Scout program serving as Troop 125 Committee Chairman, Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, and committee member. He also served at Council and District levels as chairman over events, Activity Chairman, Scout Training Chairman, and Golden Spike District Chairman. He had received the Silver Beaver recognition.

In the LDS church he had served in many capacities including teacher of Primary and Elder’s and High Priest’s quorums, Aaronic Priesthood quorum advisor, to Deacons and Teachers, Garland Stake Young Men’s President, High Council member, and First Counselor in the Garland First Ward Bishopric. He was currently serving as Young Men’s President of the Garland 4th Ward.

He is survived by his wife of Garland, three children; 15 grandchildren and one sister, LoVell Medrano of Logan.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 10, 1998, 11:00 a.m. at the Garland Tabernacle, 140 W. Factory ST. with Bishop Phillip Lee officiating. Friends may call Thursday, July 9th, 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday, July 10th, 9:00-10:30 a.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home 111 N. 100 E., Tremonton.

Interment Garland City Cemetery.
