David Kenneth Merrill

After a long illness, David Kenneth Merrill passed through the portal on October 28, 2012.

David was born on March 1, 1925 in Ogden, UT to William Paul and Susan Jacobs Merrill. Upon graduation from Preston High School in 1943 he joined the Army Air Corps. Following the war he attended Utah State University and returned to service in the Air Force.

David married LaWana Jensen of Preston, ID in 1948. They had three boys and built a life together for the next 56 years.

David saw active combat in the P-51 Mustang during the Korean Conflict.
David returned to Utah following his military retirement and began a second career teaching in the Granite School District.

He spent many years exploring the mountains of northern Utah on ATVs and snowmobiles.

After LaWana’s passing, David remarried and shared his last years with his wonderful wife and companion, Ondelyn Mockli Merrill. They cruised the world and celebrated their life together while also serving as temple workers in the Bountiful Temple. In his career and travels, David has visited all 50 states, 22 countries and many remote islands of the Pacific.

His parents and his three brothers preceded David in death. He is survived by his wife, Ondelyn, and by his three sons: David (Pam), Douglas and Travis; by 11 loving grandchildren and an ever-increasing number of great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Pearl for his medical care and Kimmy Thompson and Sergio of Lighthouse Hospice for their assistance during David’s final days.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Highlands LDS Ward Chapel, 1520 S. Fox Pointe Dr, Kaysville, UT. Friends visited with the family from 9:30 to 10:45 at the church prior to services. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
