Darrel Vernon Rasmussen, 82, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle.

He was born September 28, 1927 in Ogden, Utah to George Thomas and Katherine E. Tribe Rasmussen. He was raised in Robertson, Wyoming, and later moved to Evanston, Wyoming in 1942.

On May 1, 1948, Darrel married Laura Meadowcroft in Evanston, Wyoming.

Darrel worked calling crews for Firemen and Engineers on the railroad. For years he drove the family bread truck from Evanston to Salt Lake City every night for pickups to make ends meet. He also ran the movie projector for the Strand and Riverview Theatres as second jobs. He later worked as a laborer at the U.P. shops sandblasting the inside of the tank cars, retiring from Union Tank in 1992.

Darrel was a member of the LDS Church.

He was a past President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Darrel loved taking family trips every year in June. He enjoyed trains, peanuts, collecting cans, horses, rodeos, John Wayne, country western music, listening to Paul Harvey and reading the Readers Digest. He also enjoyed keeping detailed notes, logs and journals.

Darrel is survived by his loving wife, Laura; one daughter, Connie Jean (Mark) Conway, Evanston; one son, Alan Lee (Vauna) Rasmussen, Sealy, TX; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and a sister, Helen Kay (James) Robb, Kennewick, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, James Alvin Rasmussen.

He will be missed by all who loved and knew him. Til’ we meet again, our loving Dad, Grandpa and friend…we love you and know you are riding your horses now free from pain.
