Daniel Gamble, 78, one of the oldest employes of the Union Pacific railroad company, for 55 years a station agent, died at eight p. m. Saturday at an Ogden hospital following an internal hemorrhage.

He took ill Wednesday at his home in Peterson and was brought to Ogden, where he suffered a relapse Saturday.

He was first employed by the Union Pacific as a messenger boy in the Ogden yards. Later, he was transferred to Carter, Wyo., as station agent. He held this position for twenty-five years.

STATION AGENT

Mr. Gamble was then made station agent at Peterson, in which capacity he served for thirty years before his retirement in 1928. His wife was given the position in recognition of Mr. Gamble’s long service at the time he was pensioned. She still carries on the duties of the position.

The veteran railroader was born in Ogden February 6, 1858, the son of Daniel and Elizabeth Cook Gamble, who were among the first Weber county pioneers.

He was educated in Ogden city schools, and September 27, 1887, he married Miss Emma Gill of Piedmont, Wyo.

WIDOW SURVIVES

Mr. Gamble is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. Daniel Willams, Morgan county; Lester Gamble, Spokane, Wash.; Daniel Gamble, Jr., Peterson; James Gamble, Peterson; twelve grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Rachael Miller, San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. D. W. Ellis, Ogden; Mrs. James A McCulloch, Ogden; Barnabas Gamble, Denver, Colo.

He was a charter member of Union Pacific Old Timers’ club No. 6. Time and place of the funeral will be announced by Larking & Sons.

OGDEN–Daniel Gamble, 78, one of the oldest Union Pacific railroad employes, who was retired on pension at Peterson in 1928, died late Saturday in a local hospital following an internal hemorrhage.

Mr. Gamble was born here February 6, 1858, a son of Daniel and Elizabeth Cook Gamble, early Weber county pioneers.

He was educated in Ogden schools and September 27, 1887, married Emma Gill here. He worked 55 years for the Union Pacific railroad prior to his retirement, serving as station agent in Carter, Wyo., and at Peterson. His wife was appointed station agent at Peterson following his retirement. He was a member of the Ogden unit, U. P. Old Timers’ Club.

Surviving besides his widow are four sons and daughters, Mrs. Danial Williams, Morgan; Lester Gamble, Spokane, Wash.; James Gamble and Danial Gamble Jr., Peterson; 12 grandchildren, and four brothers and sisters, Mrs. Rachel Miller, San Diego, Cal.; Mrs D. W. Ellis, Ogden; Mrs James A. McCullock and Barnabus Gamble, Denber, Colo.

Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p. m. in the Larking and Sons mortuary chapel. Friends may call at the chapel until time of services. Burial will be in Ogden City cemetery. Members of the Ogden unit of U. P. Old Timers’ will attend the services in a body.
