Clifford Lester “CL” Burningham, 77, of 954 N. Grand Ave., Provo, died Sunday, March 25, 1979, at Utah Valley Hospital of complications due to pneumonia.

He was born in Bountiful Oct. 20, 1901, to William Burningham and Sarah Burton. He married Sarah Clayson June 27, 1923, in Provo and she died in 1943. He then married Jenevieve Vanore April 16, 1959, in Elko, Nev.

He received his education in Bountiful Schools and entered the Marines when he was 16 years old during WWI. He worked in Las Vegas for the Union Pacific Railroad, then in the mines in Carbon County. He then went to work on the construction of U.S. Steel and then for Geneva Steel in the maintenance department as a welder. He retired in 1967. He was a member of the Provo LDS 24th Ward where he was an Elder. He was a member of the BPOE No. 849. He enjoyed golf, flowers and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, two sons and two daughters, LaMar Burningham, Mrs. Harold (Barbara) Park, both of Orem; SFC Leland George Burningham, serving in the U.S. Navy in Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Robert (Betty) Oscarson, Pleasant Grove. 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, one brother and two sisters, Muril Burningham, Bountiful; Mrs. Myrtle Jordison, and Mrs. Eunice Spears, both of Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Provo 24th Ward LDS Chapel, 1124 Grand Ave. Friends may call at the ward chapel on Tuesday prior to services. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
