Carrie R. Merrill Beloved Mother Carrie, the youngest of nine children, was born March 4, 1902, in Logan, Utah, to Joel Ricks, Jr. and Susette Cardon. Her siblings all previously deceased are Lewis, Rhea Larsen, Reda Allen, Phebe Wood, Susette Fletcher, Joel, Paul, and Irene Bastow. Carrie departed this life September 14, 2003. 

She is survived by her six Kowallis children, Otto Karl (Cleo), Calvin Ricks (Rada), Donna Marie Hansen (A. Boyd, dec.), Theodore Ricks (Margaret), Carrie Louise Romney (Milton), and Theda Ellen Parkinson (Ralph). She also has 34 grandchildren, 107 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren

She will be best remembered for her desire to develop and share her talents. She was a member of the LDS church and strove to teach her children its values. She taught Primary at 13. She loved teaching and participating with the young people in Mutual, writing road shows and pageants for them. She served a four-year mission with her husband Norman Salvesen in the Alaska-Canada mission, and when they returned they were officiators in the Logan Temple for several years.

Norman was ‘grandpa’ to her grandchildren. She loved to dance and perform at an early age. She started painting in her 70’s, sold her paintings and held exhibits. She joined the League of Utah Writers and the DUP of which she organized a branch at Canyon Towers. She loved to recite poetry. She loved to travel, and the out of doors. 

She could get so excited about little things. Later in her life she married Ariel Cardon Merrill. They had six happy years together. 

Services were held Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, 11 a.m., at the Centerville Fifth Ward, 270 N. 300 E., Centerville. Family and friends were invited to a viewing 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., prior to the funeral service. 

Interment: Richmond Cemetery. We wish to express thanks to all who attended Carrie at Barton Creek, Lakeview Hospital and South Davis Community Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Missionary Fund, the Revolving Education Fund or a charity of your choice.
