22 May 1936 – 27 May 2023
Stepmother of Christa Lyn Nyman, wife of Alan Cardon

Carol Ann Parry Nyman, 87, passed away May 27, 2023, in Cedar City, Utah. She was born May 22, 1936, in Cedar City, Utah to Afton Leone Parrish and Gronway Robert Parry.
Carol Ann often commented that she had little adult supervision while growing up. Her father was often away on business and her mother –preoccupied with housekeeping – often told Carol Ann, “Go somewhere and do something.” Carol Ann’s favorite option was to hop on her horse, Paint, whistle for her dog, Penny, and ride west to meet up with a horse-riding friend, Laurena Jones. Carol Ann was the one with long braids and the dog riding atop the horse with her.
In 1955 Carol Ann began taking classes at the College of Southern Utah (CSU, later SUSC then SUU). She interrupted her studies to marry L. Kerry Jones on April 10, 1956. She persisted with her studies and graduated from CSU in 1959 as the class valedictorian.
Kerry and Carol Ann later divorced. The divorce was a tough time for Carol Ann. She was suddenly single and responsible for three lively teenage kids, an invalid mother (Afton had suffered a stroke, and had moved in with her to receive care), and two barking dogs. Despite the obvious baggage she married C. David Nyman on February 21, 1975. He willingly shared her burdens and her love for music.
Carol Ann was competent at everything she did, including playing the cello. Music was a big part of her life. Carol Ann taught English at the Cedar City Middle School from 1979-1997. She was often stopped in town by former students to thank her for her kindness and encouragement.
Her family will fondly remember her as a devoted and fun-loving mother who relished a good dinner party. Her freshly baked bread was always a hit. Memorable moments include the times she glowed with satisfaction just before setting a delicious dish before her expectant and hungry guests. Her smile radiated happiness at the gathering of friends and family over something she prepared. The memory of her smile continues to warm the hearts of those who knew her. She kept thousands of recipes from many cookbooks. We wish we could remember which ones were good.
The family would like to thank her friends, and especially Bernie Tom for providing care and companionship as Carol Ann neared the end of her life. Carol Ann maintained her sense of humor even while losing her sense of direction.
She is survived by a sister, Geraldine Toni (Malcom ‘Mel’ Rennings, deceased), and children, Julie Groo (Donny Cook), Kirk Jones (Becca), Mark Jones (Lisa), and Christa Nyman Cardon (Alan). She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl David Nyman, father and mother, Gronway Robert and Afton Leone Parrish Parry, brothers Gronway Robert ‘Bob’ Parry II, and Maurice Dale Parry.
