REXBURG – Carl Alvin Smith, 84, of Rexburg, died Dec. 13, 1999, at the Idaho Falls Care Center. He was born Dec. 9, 1915, at Preston, Idaho, to LeGrand C. and Mary Miria Gibbons Smith.

He graduated from Sugar-Salem High School in Idaho and later graduated from Utah State University. On June 11, 1938, he married Gayle Cardon in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1978.

He was a farmer and farmed in Idaho on Canyon Creek above Newdale. His wife preceded him in death. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was active in the Eastern Idaho Senior Citizens and the Rexburg Lions Club, where he served as District Governor of District 39-E. The district includes the eastern side of Idaho. He was a faithful friend of Bill W.

Survivors include his daughters, Peggy Jo McIntire of Idaho Falls, and Mary Gayle “Mid” Summers of Ririe; a sister, Alice Hegsted of Rexburg; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. A brother, Herman Smith, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be at 11 a. m. Friday at the Rexburg LDS 15th Ward, 166 S. First East, with Bishop Thaine Robinson officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p. m. at Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, and Friday from 10 to 10:45 a. m. at the church. Burial will be in the Rexburg Cemetery.

The family suggests donations to the Idaho Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation, in care of Flamm Funeral Home, 61 N. First East, Rexburg, ID 83440.
