Blanche Cardon Thompson

Blanche Cardon Thompson, 89, died peacefully Friday, May 14, 2004, at Sunshine Terrace in Logan. She was born April 11, 1915 in Independence, Missouri the youngest of eight children of Joseph E. and Sophia Wilson Cardon. She married Fred Thompson November 6, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple. She graduated from Utah State University in 1937 with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. While attending USU, she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and was active in many musical productions, including singing the lead role in the opera Carmen. An accomplished musician, she fulfilled an LDS Church mission as organist at the 1940 Golden Gate International Exposition in San Francisco. A lifetime of musical service in her church and community involved playing for hundreds of funerals and accompanying soloists and choirs for numerous programs and performances. Her membership in several clubs and organizations included the Logan Literary Club, Fine Arts Club, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, the USU Old Main Society and Presidents Club. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Lynne and John Steinitz, Del Mar, California, Janice and Rory Roemmich, San Diego, California; and a son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Robin Thompson, Salt Lake City; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, May 18, at the Allen-Hall Mortuary Chapel, 34 E. Center in Logan. Friends may call at the mortuary Monday from 6-8 p.m. or Tuesday 10:45-11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Logan City cemetery.
