19 Mar 1931 – 14 Apr 2019
Great-Grandson of Philip Cardon and Martha Marie Tourn
Grandson of Thomas Barthelemy Cardon and Ella Clarinda Hinckley
Son of Grace Hinckley Cardon and Angus Curtis McDonald
Born March 19, 1931, to Angus & Grace Cardon McDonald in Salina, UT. Bartley honorably served in the United States Air Force from January 1951 to September 1954, during the Korean War, he obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. While stationed in Denver CO he met his eternal companion, Caree Brink McDonald. They were married on December 30, 1954, in Englewood, Colorado and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 14, 1955. They had 2 children, Chandra Jean McDonald Salisbury and Curtis Lynn McDonald.
Bartley was preceded in death by his wife Caree, his parents Angus & Grace, his brother Cardon, sister Darcia, and his loving daughter Chandra.
He is survived by his Son Curtis (Peggy) McDonald. He has 8 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren.
Bartley was a devoted, loving husband; caring for Caree as her health declined over several years. He tirelessly helped her, many times sacrificing his needs to take care of her. Bartley and Caree also served as foster parents to at risk children, giving them love and care to help recover from both physical and emotional abuse. He worked as an Accountant for companies in Denver and Salt Lake. At the time of his retirement he was Credit Manager at Sabol & Rice. He had an Income Tax business and volunteered for the IRS, assisting people with tax preparation. He worked many hours in volunteer positions in the Republican Party in both Denver and Salt Lake County. He was a valiant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in Bishoprics, taught Sunday School classes. For several years while living in Denver, he was an early morning seminary teacher – inspiring many youth to live the gospel and serve missions. Also in Denver the “McDonald’s” had missionaries to their home, feeding them, helping them learn discussions, and showing them a great time playing ping pong and shooting off fireworks on the 4th of July. We had missionaries over so often that the Mission President’s wife could not understand why the missionaries were passing up on her home cooked meals to go to “McDonald’s” for dinner – thinking they were eating hamburgers and fries at the restaurant.
In the last three years he lived at Sunridge Assisted Living Center. He made many friendships with the other residents – always remembered their names and where they were from. He also was close with the administrators, nurses and aides that cared for him, always asking about their lives and interests.
He loved dogs, both he and Caree had many pets over the years, their last dog, Brutis, was a dachshund. The dog developed serious health problems, Bartley again did everything he could to make Brutis comfortable and extended his life by hand feeding him every meal and massaging his throat to assist him in swallowing his food. This is just another example of Bartley’s compassion and love for all creatures.
