Barbara Shaw LeBaron returned to her heavenly home January 6, 2018. She was born June 2, 1942 in Lehi, Utah, the oldest child of Frank Williams and Naomi “E” Halliday Shaw. Her father, Frank passed away when she was only nine years old. She spent her childhood years in Lehi, Utah where she enjoyed taking ballet and piano lessons and excelling in her studies.
Following her graduation from Lehi High School, Barbara attended Brigham Young University where she met her husband and the love of her life, Garn LeBaron. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 27, 1963. Five months after their wedding they both graduated from BYU and moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho where Garn began his teaching career. Their two oldest children were born while they lived in Idaho.
In 1968, they moved to Orem, Utah where the remainder of their 10 children were born. Barbara enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished seamstress. She used this skill to make clothing for her children. She spent many hours knitting, crocheting, and embroidering things to beautify her home and bless the lives of others. She used her home economics degree to care for her large family. She cooked, cleaned, sewed, and spent long hours caring for her children. Her motto was “a place for everything and everything in its place”. Barbara was a quiet and calming influence in the home and showed gentle kindness to those around her. Her family was her number one priority.
Barbara was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in the primary organization for more than 30 years, many of those years as a Sunbeam teacher. For the last 5 years she served as a temple worker in the Mt. Timpanogos and Provo temples. She was a faithful visiting teacher throughout her life.
She exhibited great strength and endurance following brain surgery and a subsequent stroke in 1996 as she re-learned to walk, talk, eat, and function again. She worked hard to return to her role as wife and mother and felt that she had accomplished her goal of seeing her children raised. Following this challenging trial, we were blessed to have Barbara with us for another 21 years.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Garn LeBaron; children Garn (Niccola), Bruce (Angie), Douglas (Kathryn), Madeline Johnson, Elizabeth Cook, Keith (Nalynn), Richard (Kathryn), Lynnette (KC) Wilkins, and Janet (Lyil) Sperry. She is also survived by her brother Frank (KayLyn) Shaw and 24 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter Margaret LeBaron.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Timpanogos Regional Hospital and Aspen Ridge Rehabilitation Center who expertly cared for Barbara during the past month.
