Mr. Greene died Jan 5, 1995, at the Davis Hospital in Layton. He was born April 14, 1916, at Richland Ore., to Bernard Mumford and Myrtle Byrne Greene. When he was 6 years old, the family moved to Robertson, Wyo., where they were engaged in cattle ranching. He attended school through the 8th grade at Robertson, later graduating from Mountain View High School. He then attended the University of Wyoming.
On Aug. 26, 1939, he married Jean Jackman at Evanston. The marriage was solemnized March 31, 1950, at the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Green then taught elementary school for five years in the Bridger Valley.
In 1942, the couple moved to Evanston where he was employed in the Union Pacific Railroad shops. He worked as a fireman on the UPRR in 1943 and was then an engineer for 31 years, retiring in 1974 because of a severe heart attack. Mr. Greene was a member of Locomotive Engineers Lodge and was secretary there for many years.
He joined the LDS church in 1948 and served as the elders quorum president, superintendent of the Young Men’s MIA, was a dance director, leader of Single Adults, ward clerk, bishop of Evanston First Ward and executive secretary to the stake president.
Mr. Greene loved to work on the ranch and enjoyed good music, reading, attending church, going on vacation trips and visiting with friends and family.
The couple moved to Layton in 1980 because of his ill health. He was a member of High Priests Group, a home teacher and president of the gospel doctrine class. For more than 10 years, he was an endowment worker in the Ogden Temple.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Beverly Thomas of Layton; a brother and two sisters, Harry W. Greene of Fort Bridger, Marion Jenkins of McKinney, Texas, and Winifred Dovey of Decatur, Ala; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, John and Orme Greene.
Friends may call at the Crandall Funeral Home in Evanston on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the Lindquist Mortuary in Fairfield, Utah, on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services Monday.
