Ariel Cardon Merrill, age 89, formerly of Orem and also Bountiful, Utah, died Nov. 11, 1990, in the American Fork hospital of causes incident to age.

He was born March 18, 1901, in Richmond, Cache Co., Utah, a son of William and Lucy Cardon Merrill.

He married Edith Horsley, Jan. 28, 1925, in the Logan LDS Temple. She died Jan. 13, 1982.

He later married Carrie Ricks, Dec. 18, 1982, in the Los Angeles LDS Temple.

He had formerly resided in Salt Lake City, Logan, and Pebble Beach, Calif. where he had been in the food and dairy business for many years. He was also a bishop, stake president, and patriarch in the LDS Church and president of the scout council.

He is survived by his wife of Sandy; son and daughters, Ariel Roger Merrill, Lehi; Joan Hansen, Pebble Beach, Calif.; Jill Cavanaugh, Roseville, Calif.; Julie Ripley, Chattanooga, Tenn.; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clarinda Green, Burley, Idaho.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. in the Lehi Utah North LDS Stake Center, 851 N. 1200 East where friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. prior to services.

Interment and graveside services will be held in the Richmond Cemetery at 3:30 p.m.
