Cardon Family Organization Honorees 2013

Boyd Louis Cardon:
Boyd was born in Alison, Colorado to Joseph Phillip and Anna Marie Rothlisberger Cardon. He and his seven siblings grew up in Durango, Colorado in a loving and caring environment. He was always a leader among his siblings, friends, school and athletic participation and he achieved scholastic and athletic
honors. He was always compassionate, determined, goal oriented, and a defender of truth and justice. Education was always important to him. From an early age he enjoyed teaching, and this defined his profession later in life.
Boyd served his first mission in his youth to South America in 1961 in the Uruguayan Mission and has served several missions since- (Costa Rica 1994- 1997, Monterrey Mexico 2005-2007, Mexico City 2009-2011). He has also served in bishoprics, as a bishop, presided over a mission and in a stake presidency.
Family and family history have always been important to Boyd, and he strives to live a life that honors his progenitors. Between serving his missions for the living, he is always busy serving missions for his deceased ancestors. Along with Ron Malan, he was instrumental in hiring Giovani Cena to do family research in the Piedmont, Italy area thus providing the family with hundreds of names for temple work. He has submitted over 1500 names to have their saving ordinances performed.
Boyd has always promoted and supported the Cardon Family Reunions. At the 2007 reunion, he prepared a presentation for us entitled “The Cardons in the Mexican Colonies” and spearheaded getting headstones for family members who lived and died in the colonies. In 2011 he chaired the Cardon Family Reunion in Salt Lake City. Because he was serving missions during the family trips to Italy, he
wasn’t able to go when they were scheduled. However, in 2012, along with his wife, Terri and Leon and Kathy Parson, he was finally able to visit the ancestral Cardon home and surrounding area. This was a sacred experience and one not to be forgotten, just as these ancestors are not to be forgotten, but always held in memory for their dedication to and their sacrifice for the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Boyd honors his forbears and encourages his descendants (7 children, 31 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren) to follow in their footsteps by living worthy to be an eternal family connected to the past, the present and the future.

Carl Goodman:
Ervin Carl Goodman was born to Ervin and Delores Goodman in Farmington, New Mexico. He is a descendent of John D. Lee on his mother’s side and Louis Philip Cardon on his father’s side. He and his wife, Kris, are the parents of four boys and the grandparents of three girls and one boy.
Carl graduated from BYU with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and is currently the Chief Engineer of the Won-Door Corporation doing research and development. He was honored in 2009 with a “Utah Genius” award for the many patents he has received. He served a mission in the Italy North Mission and was able to visit Mount Brigham and some of the Cardon family ancestral sites at that time. He has returned to Italy three times, most recently on the Cardon Family trip in 2010. (He is planning to return to Italy in 2014 on the Cardon family tour and would also love to attend the dedication of the Rome Temple.)
He has served in several bishoprics and quorum leadership positions, on the High Council, and as a teacher in various organizations. He is currently the Family History teacher and High Priest secretary in the ward, but his favorite calling was being a Nursery Leader.
Carl has been active in the Cardon Family Organization for many years and has served on various committees for the reunions and been instrumental in publishing several descendant books. He has been the Web Master for TheCardonFamilies.org for about 10 years. In that capacity, he tries to keep track of EVERYONE–living or dead–related to the Cardon families. [Please send him your family data!]
He spends countless hours at the computer organizing and posting information such as personal histories, stories, obituaries, and other data, and connecting family members with useful information. He scrupulously guards identifying information about living people and grieves over any deaths. He talks
about ancestors and descendants like they are old friends. He is proud of his Cardon heritage and probably knows more about the various branches of the family than most family members.
A few of his more academic interests are genealogy, Book of Mormon archeology, and early LDS history. In his youth, he loved prospecting with his grandpa Lee for lost gold mines or buried Spanish treasure. At some point, he would like to write a book about his adventures.
