Is Killed
Near Bisbee
A Tucson truck driver was killed today near Bisbee when his tanker went out of control and crashed. He was Mason Earl Downey, 32, of 1026 N. Vine Ave.
The accident occured east of the Mule Mountain Pass tunnel on U.S. Highway 80. Highway patrolmen said 10,000 gallons of gasoline spilled on the roadway but did not catch fire. Downey died in a Bisbee hospital.

kill 3 in state
Three persons died in separate weather – related crashes across Arizona yesterday, the State Department of Public Safety reported.
Officers identified the dead as Mason Earl Downey, 32, of Tucson; Larry Kee Esson, 22, of Kayenta, and Oscar Walter Wills, 53 of Los Angeles.
Downey was killed yesterday morning when he lost control of a gasoline tank truck he was driving west of Bisbee and the rig slammed into a hillside, officers said.
Downey was reported dead on arrival at Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee.

A Tucson truck driver was killed Tuesday and 10,000 gallons of gasoline spilled on a highway west of Bisbee.
The Arizona Highway Patrol said the truck, driven by Mason Earl Downey, 1026 N. Vine Ave., went out of control on rain-sliced U.S. 80 just east of Muel Mountain Pass tunnel.
The truck skidded about one quarter of a mile before its two trailers broke loose and slammed into a hillside.
Downey was killed and the gasoline dumped on the highway.
His death raised Arizona’s 1969 traffic death count to 581, compared to 522 a year ago.
