Paul Eldon Gass, 87, former longtime Pullman resident, passed away April 5, 2016, in Boise with his family at his side. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Vault interment with military honors will follow at the Pullman Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Miller, Mo., to Howard and Wilma Gass. The family moved to Pullman in 1937. Paul graduated from Pullman High School and attended Eastern Washington University. He joined the armed forces of the United States in 1948 and was stationed in Germany. After his service in the Army, he married Mary Anne Starr, and they had three children, Craig, Gary and Brenda.
Paul and his dad owned and operated an auto repair shop in Pullman, Gass’s Auto Service, for many years. He also worked for Washington State University, first in the motor pool and then the physical plant as storeroom manager. He and Mary Anne retired in 1992 and moved to Boise, Idaho.
Paul enjoyed traveling with his wife and family throughout his life. There were many family camping trips with our grandparents that always involved much laughter and storytelling. For many years he attended the Elks Lodge No. 249 with a group of lifetime friends. He was also a WSU sports fan. Paul loved his family and especially threw himself into playing with his grandchildren. He was well loved and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by son Craig, and daughter-in-law Isabelle; son Gary; daughter Brenda and son-in-law Joseph Meier; grandchildren Stephanie Gass, Katie, Carly and Ryan Meier and Paula Gass; brother-in-law Alfred Starr and sister-in-law Susan; sister-in-law Ione Visick; and his nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years.
Memorial contributions in Paul’s honor are suggested to St. Luke’s Mountain States Tumor Institute, 100 E. Idaho St., Boise, ID 83712. Kimball Funeral Home of Pullman has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.kimballfh.com.
