REXBURG – Gayle Cardon Smith, 77, of Rexburg, died Nov. 5, 1992, at her home of natural causes.
She was born July 10, 1915, at Logan, Utah, to Bartlie Temple and Jennie Murdock Cardon. She grew up in Logan and graduated from Utah State University.
On June 11, 1938, she married Carl Alvin Smith at Logan. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They lived in Sugar City and Rexburg.
She was a member of the LDS Church. She was active in community affairs, a member of the Democratic Party, was instrumental in organizing the Senior Citizens in Madison County, served as chairman of the March of Dimes, and was active as a USU alumna. She enjoyed bowling and golf.
Survivors include her husband of Rexburg; daughters, Peggy J. McIntire and Mary Gale “Mid” Smith, both of Idaho Falls; a brother and three sisters, Phyllip Cardon of Palm Springs, Calif., Joan Venderhoff of Farmington, Utah, Annette Carlos of Salt Lake City, and Lou Jean Evans of Spokane, Wash.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Rexburg LDS 15th Ward, corner of First E. and Second South, with Scott Samuelson officiating. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg and Saturday from noon to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Rexburg Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the Lions Sight Foundation through Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg.
