Harry S. Brutton, veteran official of the public relations department of the Procter & Gamble Co., and active civic leader, died yesterday at Christ Hospital after a six months’ illness. He was 58 years old.

A native of Cincinnati, Mr. Brutton began his career with the company in 1911 as an employee in the bulk sales department. From 1923 to 1930 he was associated with the advertising department.

In 1931 Mr. Brutton organized the public relations activities of the company. He was named first public relations director shortly afterwards and was with the company’s public relations division at the time of his death. He resided at 2314 East Hill Ave.

In addition to his work with the Procter & Gamble Co., Mr. Brutton was active in Red Cross and Community Chest drives. He served as publicity chairman of the 1931 Community Chest campaign and as secretary of the Cincinnati and Hamilton Chapter of the Red Cross from 1930 to 1936.

Mr. Brutton was a member of Hyde Park Lodge of Masons. He had served as publicity chairman of the Institute of Fine Arts in 1928. He was educated in Cincinnati public schools.

Surviving Mr. Brutton are his widow, Mrs. Bertha Meyer Brutton; his mother, Mrs. May Brutton of the home address; two daughters, Mrs. J. A. Cardon Washington, and Mrs. William H. Bischoff, 1336 Michigan Ave., Hyde Park, and a son, Harry S. Brutton III, a senior at Ohio University.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Clarence A. Baiter funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Grove.
