While working in Salt Lake City, she met a soldier, Clint S. Cook. They were married January 4, 1942. After their marriage, they moved to Ogden, Utah, where she worked at Hill Air Force Base. When Clint was sent overseas, she returned to the home of her parents in Trenton, Utah, where her first child, Gwen, was born.

Upon Clint’s discharge, the family moved to Idaho. In 1951, they moved to Arco, making Arco their base home. For brief periods, the family also lived in Richfield, Washington, Kalispel, Montana, and Oakland, California.

In 1969, Clint and Betty became Mesa, Arizona, residents, and after Clint’s retirement, the couple spent their winters in Mesa and their summers in Arco.

Betty had a very gentle, sweet spirit with a wonderful sense of humor and special insight. Besides her grandchildren, she enjoyed ceramics, needlework and other crafts. She especially loved to dance. Her courage and determination are an inspiration to all of us who have known and loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Clint; a son, Val Cook, St. Joseph, Michigan; a daughter, Juanita Kerr, Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren; four sisters, Emma Payne, Springdale, Idaho; Florence West, Declo Idaho; Maurine Strout, Manteca, California; Netta Baum, Twin Falls, Idaho; and a brother, Boyd Cardon, Hood River, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Gwen Pearson.

Interment has been in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Phoenix. A memorial service will be held July 30 at the Declo Ward LDS Church. The family requests memorials be made to the Mountain States Tumor Institute, Boise, Idaho, or the American Cancer Society.
