RICHMOND, Cache County (Special) – William Merrill, 83, died Sunday at his home in Richmond. He was a brother of Dr. Joseph F. Merrill, member of the Council of Twelve Apostles, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mr. Merrill was active in LDS church work, serving for 28 years as one of the first high councilmen of Bennson stake. At the time of his death, he was a high priest and group leader of his quorum.
Born in Richmond
He was born March 23, 1868, in Richmond, a son of Marriner Wood and Sarah Ann Atkinson Merrill. He attended Richmond schools and Brigham Young College in Logan. At the age of 12 he went with his father to Montana, assisting in the construction of the Utah Northern Railroad.
On Sept. 25, 1890, he married Lucy Cardon in the Logan LDS temple.
In 1890, he went into partnership in Danielson and Merrill Manufacturing Co., making farm implements. It was one of the first successful businesses of its type in the intermountain area. After 17 years with the firm, he engaged in farming, later owning a confectionary in Richmond.
Surviving Kin
Mr. Merrill is survived by his widow; and the following sons and daughters: Judge William Paul Merrill, Preston, Ida.; John C. and Keith C. Merrill and Mrs. Clarinda Green, all of Paul, Ida.; Ariel C. Merrill, Everett, Wash.; and Mrs. Leah Bright, Lewiston, Cache County.
The following brothers and sisters also survive: L. Edgar Merrill, Lewiston; Dr. Amos Merrill, Provo; Mrs. Orvella Jensen, Mrs. Lucy Funk and Apostle Merrill, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Anna May Hale and Mrs. Hattie Funk, Logan; Dr. Melvin C. Merrill, Washington, D. C.; Mrs. Nellie Johnson and Mrs. Elna Johnson Richmond; Mrs. Hilda Richards, Malad, Ida.; Mrs. Loretta Rigby, Rexburg, Ida.; and Mrs. Elnore Olsen, Smithfield, Cache County.

RICHMOND, Cache County (Special)-Funeral services for William Merrill, 83, who died Sunday, were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Richmond Tabernacle, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by Justice Erickson, bishop.
Mr. Merrill was a brother of Joseph F. Merrill, member of the Council of Twelve Apostles, L D S Church. He was a farmer and businessman in Richmond and was active in L D S Church work.
Burial was in Richmond City Cemetery.
